About this lesson
Symbolist, gilded-realist painter Brad Kunkle explains his specific oil-gilding process in an interview reprinted on his own site: Charbonnel oil size timed to a 15-30 minute tack, baby powder to kill excess tack, patent (not loose) leaf, shellac to protect silver from tarnish, and etching tools to shape and scratch detail into gilded passages.
