Italian Paper Mache, or Carta Cartapesta

About this lesson

Documents the traditional Lecce cartapesta process observed in a maestro's workshop: pulling cotton-fiber sheets on a mesh frame, building forms over wire armatures with flour paste and copper sulfate, and using heated iron rods to fix folds before a plaster ground is applied for paint and gilding.
